Our story
Since shortly after World War II, the Van der Jeugt family (VDJ) has been seasoned in the processing of natural casings.
Over the years, the market for VDJ has become increasingly international.
For a long time, natural casings were produced, processed, sorted and delivered locally. But as early as the 1970s, part of the production was housed in countries such as Tunisia or Portugal. In the 1990s, we moved to Poland and since 2010 we have also been working with Chinese partners to maintain our independence and quality control.
For a long time, sorting and distribution remained in rural Daknam (our home port), but in the wake of professionalisation and scaling up in the sector, a brand new distribution centre was set up in 1995 on the industrial estate of Waaslandlaan in Lokeren.
However, all these changes did not change the starting point: natural casings are a purely natural product. Knowledge of that product is essential and the business was passed on from father to son to daughter and son-in-law. The acquired knowledge remained in the company, as did the family approach to service provision, to assist the customer with knowledge and experience to find the best solution.
At the same time, the growth and global expansion, the rational business management and the demands of the market were linked to that artisanal approach. That is what VDJ wants to continue to do.
